Tatami and sea views above the quiet Uraga inlet
About this stay
Uraga sits several Keikyu stops south of the Yokosuka port district, which is the trade the inn asks you to make: about twenty-three kilometres to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine in Kamakura and fifty-three to Tokyo Haneda Airport, in exchange for a waterfront that goes quiet in the evening. Rooms are tatami, air-conditioned, with a balcony, a sea view, linen, slippers and a private bathroom carrying a bidet, a shower and free toiletries. There is no communal onsen. A kitchen with kitchenware, a microwave, a refrigerator and a washing machine sits behind the rooms, which is what makes a stay of several nights practical rather than merely possible. The restaurant serves Japanese cuisine across brunch, lunch and dinner in a traditional setting, with kosher and vegan options listed, and a coffee shop covers the afternoon. A terrace, daily housekeeping, luggage storage and free WiFi round it out.
- Tatami rooms above the water
- Kitchen and washing machine
- On-site Japanese restaurant and coffee shop
- Terrace with sea views
Our take
The tatami option in a city built for Western beds, and the kitchen and washing machine make it the strongest base here for a family or a group staying several nights. The kosher and vegan dishes are worth a message ahead, because they are rare on this coast. Anyone whose plans revolve around the naval base, Dobuita Street or an early train will spend real time on the Keikyu line and should stay north instead.
- Ride the Keikyu line south to Uraga rather than aiming for JR Yokosuka Station, which sits several stops north.
- Book dinner in the restaurant ahead, since the Uraga streets close earlier than the port district does.
- Run the washing machine on a longer stay, then take the small ferry across the inlet in the morning.

Why guests love itYado at Uraga is a good fit for families who want a Japanese-style base by the water: tatami rooms come with sea views and balconies. A kitchen, a washing machine and a refrigerator make a longer stay practical, while the restaurant serves Japanese food with kosher and vegan options, useful for families with dietary needs. Kamakura's Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is about 23 km away for a day out. The 8.4 score from 80 reviews is solid.
