About this stay

The walk from the Keikyu Shioiri ticket gate takes a minute, which is the single fact that decides most bookings here. JR Yokosuka Station is about ten minutes further along the harbour, and the American naval base gate and the Yokosuka Arts Theatre are both around five. Rooms are air-conditioned, finished in neutral colours with floor-to-ceiling windows, and fitted with an LCD television carrying Japanese and international channels, a personal safe and a minibar. The bathroom is attached, with toiletries and a hairdryer. There is no communal bath, so the soak happens in the room. Reception runs twenty-four hours with safety deposit, dry cleaning and currency exchange, and vending machines cover drinks and snacks. The restaurant on the nineteenth floor serves a Japanese and Western breakfast over the bay, and bar Champs-Elysees handles the ground floor. Shops and restaurants sit immediately outside, with Dobuita Street a short walk inland.

  • One-minute walk to Shioiri Station
  • Nineteenth-floor bay-view restaurant
  • Bar Champs-Elysees on the ground floor
  • Personal safe and minibar in room

Our take

I would choose Mercure Yokosuka for its location and its view. Keikyu Shioiri Station is one minute away, the Yokosuka Arts Theatre five minutes and JR Yokosuka Station about ten, so it works well for getting around without a car. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, a personal safe and a minibar, and the nineteenth-floor restaurant overlooks Yokosuka Bay, with Bar Champs-Elysees on the ground floor. It is a harbour hotel, not a resort, so plan your days outside it.

  • Book breakfast on the nineteenth floor rather than eating out, since the bay view over the shipyard is the reason to be up here.
  • Ask for a higher floor when you reserve, because the harbour road below stays busy well into the evening.
  • Walk to Dobuita Street for navy burgers and Yokosuka curry, then come back along the Verny Park promenade.

Why we love it

  • One minute on foot from Keikyu Shioiri Station
  • The nineteenth-floor restaurant over Yokosuka Bay
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows in every room
  • Twenty-four hour reception with currency exchange
Why guests love it

Mercure Yokosuka suits a family that wants a harbour-side base with simple connections. The Keikyu Shioiri Station is a one-minute walk away, the Yokosuka Arts Theatre is five minutes on foot and JR Yokosuka Station about ten. Air-conditioned rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, a personal safe and a minibar, and the nineteenth-floor restaurant looks over Yokosuka Bay. A bar on the ground floor makes an easy evening stop for the adults.
