Dormy Inn's chain formula works because it treats the onsen as the main event rather than an afterthought: both indoor and outdoor rotenburo-style baths sit on site, a rarity this close to central Asahikawa rather than out at a resort. The building itself is unpretentious, a short walk from Tokiwa Park's riverside green space and one minute from the 6-jo Showa-dori tram stop for anyone connecting further into the city. Rooms are warm but plain, built to send guests to the baths rather than keep them in the room. The restaurant and sauna round out an evening that needs no reservation elsewhere, and the ramen counters near Heiwa dori are a short walk if the in-house restaurant is full.
