Shigakogen Prince Hotel
Ski-to-slope rooms beside Shigakogen's lift network
About this stay
The draw here is the walk from the lobby to the lift line, not a station platform. Rooms come with a yukata robe and green tea set laid out on arrival, a small ritual before or after a day on the Shigakogen Yakebitaiyama slopes. Buffet breakfast, a la carte lunch and buffet dinner run on hotel time rather than village restaurant hours, useful when lifts close early in midwinter. The gift shop and bar fill the evening once boots come off, and lockers by the entrance keep gear out of the room. Couples traveling as a pair rate the location highest, likely for the direct slope access rather than any nearby town. Guests arriving without a car generally rely on a pre-booked transfer or the hotel shuttle, since public transport thins out considerably this far up the mountain.
- Ski-in location
- Yukata and tea set
- Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Luggage storage and lockers
Our take
This suits skiers who want the lift line outside the door and are willing to trade a JR station connection for it, since Nagano Station sits a 90-minute drive away. Families and couples booked here for a ski week will get full use of the on-site dining. Anyone planning day trips into Nagano city itself should book a station-area hotel instead and treat this as a dedicated mountain stay.
- Reserve the buffet dinner slot early in peak season, since lift-close crowds fill the dining room fast.
- Ask for a room with the mountain view over the standard side, the ski terrain is the main scenery here.
- Pack for a 90-minute transfer from Nagano Station, arrange the hotel shuttle or a rental car in advance.
Why we love it
- Ski-to-door access to Shigakogen's lifts
- Yukata robe and tea set in every room
- On-site buffet dinner after lift close
- Gift shop and bar for evening downtime
Why guests love itThe lift line was close enough to walk to in boots, which changed the whole rhythm of the trip. Breakfast ran early enough to catch first tracks, and dinner was already sorted by the time legs gave out around 6pm. The yukata and tea set felt like a small welcome rather than a gimmick. Being 90 minutes from Nagano Station meant no day trips into the city, which was fine given the goal was skiing, not sightseeing.
