Our take
I would choose Hotel Okura Niigata for its riverside setting. Elegant rooms with large windows look over the Shinano River or the city, and service extras such as a concierge, a hair salon, luggage storage and currency exchange at the 24-hour reception add polish. JR Niigata Station and Toki Messe are a short drive rather than a walk, so plan on a taxi or bus. The 8.2 score from nearly 1,500 reviews reflects a comfortable, well-serviced stay.
