Our take

BALCOM STAY Hiroshima Otemachi sits at 2-7-27 Otemachi in Naka Ward, on the east side of the Motoyasu River, with Peace Memorial Park on the island across the water and the Hondori shopping arcade a few blocks north. Units are run like small apartments: a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge, a washing machine, a private bathroom and a balcony, with a lift in the building. Twenty-two guests give it 9.4, a strong score on a small sample. I would choose it for three or more nights with a Miyajima day trip in the middle, and skip it if you want a restaurant or bar downstairs.

  • The Aqua Net ferry to Miyajima leaves from Motoyasu Pier at the foot of Motoyasu Bridge, just south of the Atomic Bomb Dome: it takes cash or cards but not IC transit cards, and it does not sell same-day bookings, so reserve the day before.
  • Since October 2023, Hatsukaichi City charges a Miyajima visit tax: it is added to ferry tickets, while Japan Rail Pass holders on the JR ferry pay it at the machines in the port.
  • Since August 2025, Hiroden trams leave from the second floor of the Hiroshima Station building on the new Ekimae-Ohashi route, which Hiroden says cuts about four minutes off the ride to Kamiyacho.
  • Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is at 10:00: with the in-unit washing machine, run a load the night before you leave rather than on departure morning.

Why we love it

  • Spacious family rooms with balconies
  • Convenient kitchenettes in every unit
  • Washing machines for longer stays
  • Prime city-centre location near landmarks
Why guests love it

BALCOM STAY Hiroshima Otemachi is built for the way families actually travel: every unit has a kitchenette, a balcony, a washing machine, a fridge and a microwave, so breakfasts and laundry are handled without fuss. The Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park are a short walk away, which keeps sightseeing manageable with children. I would book it for three nights or more, when the washing machine and kitchen really pay off. Security runs all day.
