  • Love hotel with fifteen rooms in linked buildings

  • About two minutes by car from the Sanyo Expressway Himeji-Nishi interchange
  • Artificial radium hot-spring water in every room's bath, jet baths, carbonated baths in some rooms
  • Maximum two guests per room
  • 8.9 from 106 guest reviews

Our take

Hotel Kaguya at Aino 936-22 is a Japanese love hotel, not a castle-town hotel: fifteen rooms in linked buildings, each with its own curtained garage, two minutes by car from the Himeji-Nishi interchange of the Sanyo Expressway and from Ōichi Station on the JR Kishin Line. Rooms take two guests at most. The bathrooms are the draw, with jet baths, lighting effects and artificial radium hot-spring water in every room, and some rooms add karaoke, massage chairs or a carbonated bath; a long in-room menu and drinks come with the room. The 8.9 from 106 reviews rewards exactly that. I would book it for a couple driving the Sanyo corridor, not for anyone sightseeing on foot: Himeji Castle is about 9 km away.

  • Overnight stays do not start in the afternoon. From Monday to Thursday and on Sundays and holidays, the stay runs from 17:00 to 13:00 or from 21:00 to 15:00; on Fridays from 17:00 to 12:00; on Saturdays and the eve of holidays from 20:00 to 11:00.
  • Arrive by car or taxi. Ōichi Station on the JR Kishin Line is the nearest, about two minutes by car, but there is no practical walk to Himeji Castle or Himeji Station, about 9 km to the east.
  • Fifteen of the eighteen parking spaces take high-roof vehicles, and each room has its own garage, so a rental minivan or camper fits without searching for a car park.
  • Cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners, AMEX), e-money and QR payments are accepted; a cash guest pays in advance and settles the difference at the end.

Why we love it

  • Adults-only exclusive atmosphere
  • Private bathrooms with spa baths
  • First-rate service and amenities
  • Soundproofed rooms for ultimate peace
Why guests love it

Hotel Kaguya is adults-only, so it is not an option for anyone travelling with children, and I would steer families towards hotels near Himeji Station instead. For couples, it offers spa baths in private bathrooms, soundproofed rooms, room service, streaming services and free private parking. The 24-hour front desk handles late arrivals. It sits 9 km from Himeji Castle, which makes a car or taxi the practical way to reach the sights. I would see it as a quiet couples' retreat.
