旭川 高砂温泉
Public, outdoor and private onsen baths, plus a manga library
About this stay
Takasago Onsen covers nearly every bath format Japan offers under one roof: a public bath, an outdoor rotenburo, a private soaking option and a sauna, all one minute from the Takasagodai 8-chome tram stop. It sits further from the station than the central hotels, an eight-minute taxi to Santa Present Park, which trades some convenience for a genuinely local, unhurried hot-spring atmosphere. The manga library is an unusual touch, useful for a slow evening between bath sessions. Rooms are plain and down-to-earth, free parking is included, and it is one of the few pet-friendly options in Asahikawa's hotel inventory. A restaurant on site covers dinner without needing to head back toward the station, and the sauna rounds out a bathing lineup that few other properties in the city can match.
- Public, outdoor & private baths
- Sauna
- Manga library
- Pet-friendly
Our take
This is the pick for a traveller who wants the widest possible bath variety, private soaking included, and does not mind being a short taxi from the station rather than in the thick of downtown. It works well for anyone travelling with a pet, a rare accommodation in this city. It is a poor fit for a traveller without a car or willing taxi budget, given the distance from central transit.
- Book the private bath slot in advance, it is limited and popular with weekend guests
- Bring a book or manga preference in mind, the library is worth an hour on a quiet evening
- Budget the taxi fare to and from the station into the stay, public transport here is limited
- Confirm pet policy details ahead if bringing an animal, rooms are limited
Why we love it
- Private onsen bath option
- Outdoor rotenburo bath
- Manga library on site
- Pet-friendly rooms
Why guests love itThe bath variety here outdid every other onsen hotel on this trip, public, outdoor and a private option all in one building, which made it worth the taxi ride from the station. The manga library filled an unplanned quiet evening better than a phone would have. Being pet-friendly was the deciding factor over a more central hotel, since finding pet accommodation elsewhere in Asahikawa was difficult. The room itself stayed simple throughout, but nobody comes here for the room.
