Dormy Inn Akita
An open-air hot-spring bath right across from Senshu Park
About this stay
Dormy Inn Akita sits directly opposite Senshu Park, the site of the old Kubota Castle, and is an eight-minute walk from JR Akita Station, putting it close to both the platform and the city's main green space at once. Rooms have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a refrigerator, with an en-suite bathroom including a shower and toiletries, a practical rather than luxurious set-up. The real draw is the open-air public bath, fed by natural hot-spring water, a genuine onsen experience within easy walking distance of the Shinkansen. Coin-operated laundry machines are available on site, useful for anyone mid-way through a longer Tohoku trip, and free internet access covers the whole property. Nearby attractions include the Akita Museum of Art, plus Tazawa Lake and the Shirakami-Sanchi mountain range for anyone planning day trips further afield. Couples rate the location well at 8.3 for a two-person trip, likely reflecting both the park-side setting and the appeal of a shared onsen soak to end the day.

Our take
The open-air hot-spring bath is what sets this hotel apart from Akita's otherwise fairly similar business hotel cluster, and combined with the location directly across from Senshu Park, it makes for one of the more genuinely pleasant stays in the city at a reasonable price point. It suits travellers who want a proper onsen moment without leaving the walkable station area.
- Time your onsen visit for early morning or after most guests have had dinner, when the open-air bath tends to be quieter
- Walk across to Senshu Park at dusk before or after your bath, since the park is at its most atmospheric in the early evening
- Use the coin-operated laundry if you're partway through a longer trip, since it's a genuine convenience not every hotel in this category offers
Why we love it
- Open-air public bath with natural hot-spring water
- Directly opposite Senshu Park and the old castle grounds
- Eight-minute walk to JR Akita Station
- Coin-operated laundry, useful for longer trips
Why guests love itWe stayed two nights specifically for the onsen bath, and having Senshu Park directly across the street made the evening soak feel like a real destination rather than a hotel amenity tacked on. The room itself is simple and functional, nothing special, but between the bath and the park-side location it was one of the better value stays we found in the city. The eight-minute walk to the station also made our departure day easy.
